Launch of electric hypercar architecture leads to range of EV innovations from Williams Advanced Engineering at Cenex LCV

Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE) today launches its latest electric vehicle innovation: an ultra-high performance electric vehicle platform designed to accelerate the ambitions of hypercar builders, from start-ups to OEMs.

With its first public presentation at the Low Carbon Vehicle Show, the new EVR concept enables brands to launch unique high-performance electric vehicles based on a cutting-edge yet cost-effective platform; combining WAE’s vast experience in vehicle and powertrain engineering into an innovative package.

One of many electric vehicle-focused innovations on display at the event, which will be held September 7-8 at the Millbrook Proving Ground, WAE is also unveiling its new scalable battery module (SBM) system and will feature the Triumph TE-1 electric motorcycle prototype with electric powertrain, underscoring its leadership position in high-performance electrification.

EVR – the advanced platform for the electric hypercars of tomorrow

The latest iteration of WAE EV platforms, EVR focuses on the growing electric hypercar sector, with a lightweight composite structure that mounts the high-performance battery system in the middle of the vehicle, optimizing the center of gravity.

The EVR can support a range of electric hypercar configurations, from track-only vehicles where the power-to-weight ratio is maximized to road-going models, both open-top Targa architectures and fixed-top GT architectures. This is made possible by the architecture‘s central tank which has been designed from day one to allow for such flexibility, including the open roof design, while retaining the very latest in performance technologies such as active aerodynamics.

With a peak battery of 85 kWh and peak power of 1,650 kW, the EVR enables acceleration of less than 2.0 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a top speed of over 400 km/h (248 mph) with a vehicle mass of less than 1,800 kg, as well as rapid charging. capacity less than 20 minutes and range greater than 450 km (279 miles). All-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive configurations are supported by several electric motor configurations.

Designed for maximum flexibility for customer needs in both interior and exterior design, EVR results in reduced time to market with peak performance, with WAE targeting the delivery of a first prototype based on EVR within 12 months of project launch to delivery of first production vehicle within 24 months.

EVR is also ready for a hydrogen future with an EVR-H fuel cell variant also being developed to deliver the equivalent performance of a pure BEV platform but powered by green H2.

Scalable Battery Module – a paradigm shift in fast and flexible battery development

Another launch at CENEX LCV is WAE’s Scalable Battery Module (SBM). Utilizing WAE’s proprietary “Sense Chain” architecture, the SBM system eliminates electronics replication, while allowing voltage and capacity independent scaling and the realization of bespoke battery designs in record time.

Revolutionizing rapid and flexible battery development, WAE’s modular toolkit enables automotive customers to create custom pack and sub-pack systems faster than ever, supporting low-volume electric vehicle developers at medium in a range of industries. Triumph TE-1 – advancing electric motorcycles
