![]() Cultural Council announces Street Gallery 3: Lamar Outdoor to display 6 juried art pieces on billboards Columbia, SC – The Cultural Council, in partnership with Lamar Advertising, will showcase six juried art pieces by local artists on outdoor billboard locations throughout Richland and Lexington Counties beginning Tuesday, February 9, 2010. This art will be BIG….14 feet x 48 feet and 10.6 feet x 36 feet BIG. Street Gallery 3 will highlight works from six local artists including: Edward Shumunes, Roy Paschal, Lee A. Monts, Esther Melton, Rob Shaw and Randall McKissick. Over 40 entries were received by the Cultural Council each submitted in a 7” x 20” wide format. Juried entries included photography, watercolor, oil on canvas, oil on wood, mixed media and one entry was even labeled “wet paint” when submitted on entry deadline day. All six Street Gallery 3 art billboards will be installed on Tuesday, February 9th and will rotate quarterly to various locations during the year long exhibition. (See location list and map) “The purpose of Street Gallery is to publicize the talents of Midlands area artists and to broaden the appeal of art throughout Richland and Lexington Counties,” according to Andrew Witt, Executive Director of the Cultural Council. “We are pleased to once again partner with the Cultural Council and sponsor Street Gallery 3,” stated Scott Shockley, VP/GM Lamar. “Outdoor advertising provides a powerful medium to showcase the diverse talents of our local artists.” “We are thrilled to once again partner with Lamar Advertising for this third display of some of the incredible artistic talent in our communities,” stated Claire Fort, Chair of the Cultural Council Board of Directors. “As you travel in and around the Greater Midlands area please take note and appreciate the work of these very talented artists showcased on the billboards. How fortunate we are to live in such a diversely artistic community – and how blessed we are to have their inspirations shared in such a powerful way.” Street Gallery 1 was originally introduced in 1998 and Street Gallery 2 displayed in 2001.
